The Marketing Expo 2018 - A Record Breaking Show
2018’s instalment of The Marketing Expo took place last month at London’s ExCeL (yep, that’s what all the fuss was about), which this year consisted of the fantastic B2B Marketing Expo, B2C Marketing Expo and MTEX. Combined, these shows delivered Europe’s largest and most interactive event dedicated to the ever-evolving world of marketing!
The buzz surrounding the event was simply electrifying and continued throughout both days. Within hours, the 2018 show had already exceeded massive expectations, with more attendees bursting through the front doors by midday, than over the whole of last year’s event!
The calibre of this crowd was unmatched by any rival show on the calendar this year. Among the 13,000 visitors, 87% of whom have already decided they will be attending next year, were leading global experts including the Head of Strategic Partnerships for Google; Head of Channel Development - TV & Mobile App for Virgin Media; and also a number of Microsoft’s Technology Strategists. These attendees had one intention; to find the latest marketing, advertising and martech trends needed to stay one step ahead of their fiercest competition, and we’re certain they didn’t leave disappointed!
Across both days, attendees were able to discover an incredible depth of information through the impressive lineup of over 300 world-class speakers. Each seminar had an industry-relevant focus, and tackled the pressing challenges most likely to be faced by marketers over the coming 12 months. From GDPR, to marketing automation and even engagement marketing strategies, these seminars covered every facet of the marketing industry! And the insights didn’t stop there...
Many of this year’s keynote speakers were easily recognisable as the biggest names in the marketing world, resulting in keynote theatres that were bursting at the seams for every single one of their incredible presentations. With Scott Brinker having recently been voted the third most influential marketer in the world by Forbes, it came as no surprise to us when hundreds of people rushed to catch his talk… not to mention his Q&A which saw a sea of hands shoot up at every possible opportunity! Scott also discussed and brought clarity to the evolution of the increasingly vital marketing technology landscape, discussing exciting predictions for the future.
As expected, another keynote speaker that drew a huge crowd was Google’s Head of Marketing (and B2B Marketing Expo regular) Raja Saggi. After providing enthralled visitors with the latest practical tips on how they can use digital advertising to solve B2B customer acquisition, growth and retention challenges in 2018, Raja had to be escorted away from an endless drove of excited spectators!

Whilst attendees were on the hunt for the latest information on all aspects of the marketing sector, 82% of visitors also attended to meet with sought-after marketing suppliers, of which there were plenty.
This is why the Marketing Expo 2018 provided the perfect platform for all visitors, in particular the 68% that were the budget decision maker for their respective companies, to network and connect with 200 visionary and diverse suppliers, such as G-Smatt Europe. Showcasing their outdoor studios, pop-up shops and cafes, trade show booths and event VIP boxes with a captivating two-story glass box and light show, these guys were deserving winners of Stand of the Show! Marketing Pod were another standout exhibitor who had plenty of interest, not least due to the fact that they transformed their stand into an incredible New York style coffee shop… and the coffee was great too!
The 2018 instalment of the show also saw more sellers connected with more buyers than ever before, which is just one of the reasons why an incredible 78% of exhibitors have already decided to return for next year’s event; we can’t wait!
Incredible features? Yep, we had those too. The IDM Training Academy was particularly popular, and constantly overflowing with visitors across both days of the show. People flocked to take part in any one of nine immersive digital marketing training sessions, departing with all the information they needed to innovate their respective businesses.
This year’s event also held The Marketing Expo Awards, which we are delighted to say ran in association with Digital Doughnut for the very first time! These celebrated and recognised the marketing innovations, tools, agencies and strategies to have made an outstanding impact on the world of marketing over the past 12 months. Judged by a panel of esteemed experts including the Managing Director for The Drum Magazine, Head of Property Marketing for Network Rail, and Head of Brand and Marketing for Marks & Spencers, B2B Marketing Lab, Pulsar, Act-On and Flashbay were dubbed worthy winners of the show’s prestigious accolades, including the Agency of the Future Award and the Best Tech Innovation Award.
So, with The Marketing Expo achieving such high success, next year’s show is set to be bigger and more comprehensive than ever before! In 2019, B2B, B2C and MTEX will join forces to create the ultimate exhibition for the modern age of marketing. This year marks the beginning of an event that is soon to be known as the epicentre of the marketing world… you ain’t seen nothing yet!
